This has been my mantra. During my cancer treatment. During my high-risk identical twin pregnancy. In this wild precious life. As we come into the home stretch (just two more weeks until our miracle babies arrive!), I find myself settling into this mantra more + more.
I’ve been very blessed with a smooth pregnancy – despite our twins being identical who share a placenta. These types of twins (called mono/di) have a lot more risks + need to arrive before 38 weeks, per ACOG (American College of OBGYN) recommendation. In order to stay sane, I’ve had to take one day at a time. I had to stay in the present moment + focus on what I could control – my nutrition + exercise.
I am a vegetarian so I’ve been extra mindful to nourish my body with iron, calcium + protein-rich foods. I take my prenatal vitamin (New Chapter) + fish oil supplement to help with our babies’ brain development.
For exercise, of course I have my work as a fitness professional. I’ve also been committed to my own workouts – while listening to my body. Here’s what’s worked for me: a blend of barre, Pilates + spin classes. It’s been interesting to see how I need to modify exercises as my body grows these two little humans.
Last week, at nearly 34 weeks, the boys estimated weight was looking really strong: Twin A at 4.75 lb and Twin B at 4.5 lb. They’ll get weighed again next week! I’m closely monitored (2x/week now) + feel grateful we are in good hands. We’re working with a labor and postpartum doula to help support us through this life milestone. We are surrounding ourselves with a team of professionals – and our dear family.
Thank you so much for your continued support + love. I can’t tell you how much it means to us. Cheers to 2020 – a year filled with joy + love, growth + learning.
